Ron and Lisa, you’re life savers! I recently discovered that my house is becoming overtaken with mold. You can imagine why I’m so happy that you’ve written this comprehensive mold removal guide! Most of my mold is on my painted walls, and I’m worried that my vacuum isn’t strong enough to remove the remaining spores. Is there an alternative method that I can use instead of the vacuum?
Ron & Lisa Beres says
Hi Lily,
You’ll want to read my recent article which contains a plethora of helpful information and tips re: mold testing and cleanup: http://www.earth911.com/home-garden/maybe-mold-tips-to-protect-your-family/ NOTE: There is a link to follow the EPA’s guidelines for proper mold cleanup (they do NOT recommend bleach). If your area is over 10 square feet – we recommend hiring a professional. If not, take precautions by using gloves and a mask to protect yourself from ingesting dangerous mold spores.

Great Kelsey!
Please drop back + share your results with us! Be green + be healthy! We like Earth Friendly’s OXO clean for grout cleaning as well (mix with water to form a paste).

I would like to know if there is a way to clean black mold on the caulk around the bathtub.
Thank you,
Gary

Hi Gary,
We love the OXO Bright from Earth Friendly Products. You can mix it with water to form a paste. Then, scrub the caulk around the tub. It’s a safe bleach alternative and can be used for both laundry and household cleaning.
