When shopping for a healthy mattress, it’s important to understand that many of the marketing terms are not regulated and can be misleading. For example, materials cited as ‘green’ and ‘eco’ sound good, but some are not even “natural,” or focused on eliminating harmful chemicals. Plant-derived” or “Soybean” foam can be another red flag whereas these materials are typically a minimum of 80% petroleum/chemical based and are not really “made of soybeans.” Lastly, look out for bamboo fabric which can consist of rayon made using environmentally toxic chemicals with zero bamboo plant in the finished product. Without third-party certification, these can be just marketing terms.
