With the current novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic requiring many people worldwide to work from home, now is a pivotal time to ensure your home environment is as healthy as possible.
A coronavirus is a common virus that causes an infection in your nose, sinuses, or upper throat. The virus is typically transmitted through respiratory droplets, such as when someone sneezes or coughs, but a new study indicates this coronavirus can remain suspended in the air for up to three hours. From sanitizing your surfaces and deep cleaning your fridge to dusting every nook and cranny in your living room, bedding and floors, it’s more essential now than ever to ensure the air you and your family are breathing is just as clean as your surfaces.
As we know by now, keeping our immune system strong to prevent or fight the flu and the coronavirus is crucial. Americans spend 90 percent of their time indoors, on average, and with the current quarantine, this number is skyrocketing. Measuring indoor air quality (IAQ) levels is one of the most important steps we can all take in preventing illness as well as increasing productivity, energy, and good health in these modern and uncertain times.
Meet the Wave Plus from Airthings
The Airthings Wave Plus is the first smart indoor air quality monitor with radon detection designed for all populated spaces including homes and offices. The Wave Plus is award-winning, battery-operated, color-coded and easy to use. You can gain full visibility of the health of your indoor air via the six built-in sensors that provide detailed views of:
- Temperature
- Humidity
- Air pressure
- Radon
- TVOCs (total volatile organic compounds)
- Carbon dioxide
The Wave Plus is the perfect product to stay safe by taking control of the air you’re breathing. Connecting to a smartphone via Bluetooth and monitoring critical indoor air quality components such as airborne chemicals (TVOCs), carbon dioxide (CO2), radon, air pressure, temperature, and humidity, users can view an in-depth analysis of the air in their home and receive notifications when air quality reaches dangerous levels.
Airthings Wave Plus gives users complete insight into their indoor air quality. In addition to the Wave Plus, Airthings offers additional air monitoring solutions for your home in affordable prices that include the Home, Wave, Wave Plus and Mini as well as options for business.

A Smarter and Healthier Home
The Wave Plus is the ONLY smart indoor air quality monitor on the market that also monitors radon, the leading cause of lung cancer for non-smokers and a common gas found in homes across America. With the Airthings Wave Plus, you can easily measure levels in any office, school, multi-unit dwelling, public space or home right from your fingertips.
Through easily linking to your smartphone via Bluetooth and the Airthings app, Wave Plus helps you achieve peace of mind that your family and loved ones are breathing safe, healthy air. It is simple to set up, easy to use and allows for full visibility into your short- and long-term indoor air quality levels across single or multiple devices.
View your data remotely and bring one or more devices online with the addition of Airthings Hub. The Hub is the heart of the Airthings home system. It brings all supported Airthings monitors online, providing on-demand access to your indoor air quality data at any time, from anywhere!
The Importance of Maintaining Healthy Humidity Levels
Healthy indoor humidity levels should be between 30-50%, according to the Environmental Protection Agency’s recommendations. Too much humidity can cause mold growth. In regards to the Coronavirus, the World Health Organization warns that everyone can be at risk, including those living in hot and humid conditions.
Did You Know? Too little humidity can, as research results indicate, increase the risk of contracting the flu.
A recent study from Yale University found that low humidity can increase the spread of the flu virus considerably. Test subjects were “more susceptible to influenza disease” when exposed to low humidity conditions and a controlled strain of the flu virus. The scientists discovered that low humidity negatively impacted the body’s natural defenses. With mortality of flu occurring primarily in infants, the immune-compromised and those aged over 65, this discovery is particularly useful in helping to protect them.
The Yale research revealed that low humidity conditions negatively impacted the immune response by “preventing mucociliary clearance”, the natural self-clearing of the airways in our respiratory system, like nasal passages. In addition, low humidity levels harmed our bodies “innate antiviral defense” and “tissue repair functions.” Not only was the viral spread increased, but the body’s natural defense mechanisms were hindered in fighting the flu virus in environments of low humidity.
CDC research also confirmed this by indicating that healthy humidity levels decreased the percentage of flu virus spread, and it’s not just the threat of viruses that are a concern.

Implementing an indoor air quality monitor will enable you and your loved ones to prevent these harmful humidity fluctuations from occurring in your house. With an Airthings monitor, you’ll be alerted to when humidity levels rise or fall above the recommended levels, and be able to take action to improve the air you breathe.

I have an AirThings Wave (1st Gen) and love the air quality information it provides at my finger tips. The only drawback with the 1st Gen AirThings is that the unit is not compatible with the new AirThings Hub that is coming out so an upgrade to an AirThings Plus would be extremely beneficial so that I can monitor the air quality at home remotely ( when I am not at home).

We live in a ground floor apartment. The facility was constructed in 1970. I’m wondering if one of the products could advise us on the air quality in this place, because I’ve been having issues with my allergies since we moved in here in 2012.
Ron & Lisa Beres says
Absolutely! It checks radon levels as well as other indoor air pollutants and since you’re on the ground floor, radon is very important to test!
Geoffrey says
I have one of these air monitors. I love it. It helps me maintain my family’s overall health and wellness.
