Valentine’s Day may be over, but that doesn’t mean things still can’t be heating up in the kitchen!  If you are tired of the same ‘ol dinner recipes or wary of flavorless vegan or vegetarian options, then hold on to your sea salt shakers because we are spicing things up at The Healthy Home Dream Team®!  We get it – you want (and deserve) to have your meal (with dessert)…and eat it too!  Are you ready to tantalize your taste buds?  Ron and I have been vegetarian (and occasionally raw, vegan and pescatarian) for over 20 years (yes people, we started when we were five years old – o.k.)?   But in all seriousness, when I met Ron his motto was if it ain’t fast food…it’s not a real meal! Whoa?  My perfect guy had one major flaw!  How could this be?  As a prior vegetarian, he was passionate about not eating meat, but had discovered from past experience that vegetarian food tasted like cardboard (sound familiar?).  Fresh off the east coast boat, the options for healthy food on a budget there were – how shall we say – nonexistent!  So, I introduced Ron to the power of the plant with a very special secret…spices (no wonder the wise men brought these as gifts)!  Everything changed for Ron.  Not only did this food taste amazing to him, but it was so much more enjoyable to eat knowing it was also healthy.  This year, we discovered a little food oasis in Costa Mesa, California called Avanti Café.  Their tacos are award winning (even up against meat + fish varieties).  Alas, we gave ‘em the old college try.  Wowsers…how could these be healthy? we thought.  The uh-mazing chef’s Mark Cleveland and Tanya Fuqua know that food should be enjoyable and good for you, hence they prepare every dish with bountiful flavor.  Then, it was time for dessert.  We tried everything – the organic + vegan cookies, chocolates and vegan ice cream.  Flavors were literally dancing off my palate (wish you could have been there to see it)!  Since then, Ron and I can’t get enough of this place and the great news is – you can too, regardless of where you reside!  Avanti now has an online store that sells their fabulous organic salt, vegan salt, organic spices and organic cookies & other sweet treats.  You can have these goodies shipped right to your front door or sent to a loved one as a gift!  And, this time, three LUCKY winners are going to win (2) fabulous gift baskets customized to their favorite palette (see choices above).  Ron’s new motto If it ain’t healthy {and spicy or sweet), it’s not a real meal (a wise man indeed)!
