Narrator This episode of healthy home hacks is sponsored by the building biology Institute to learn more about creating indoor environments that support health and wellness visit their free resources at building biology institute.org. How would you like to improve your health and keep your family safe? You're listening to the healthy home hacks podcast where we firmly believe enjoying optimal health shouldn't be a luxury. healthy home authorities and husband and wife team Ron and Lisa will help you create a home environment that will level up your health. It's time to hear from the experts. listen in on honest conversations and gain the best tips and advice. If you're ready to dive in and improve your well-being and increase your energy you're in the right place. All right, here are your hosts, bow biologists, authors, media darlings, vicarious vegans and avocado aficionados. Ron and Lisa Beres. Ron Beres Hello, and welcome to the podcast where technology and health collide. Can we find a balance? I am your host, Ron Beres. Hey, everyone. Lisa Beres Thanks for joining us today I am your cohost, Lisa Beres. And in case you didn't figure it out, Ron and I are a husband, wife team. In fact, we are the healthy home Dream Team. And for the last 15 years, we've been helping people just like you eliminate toxins from their home and life with simple step by step solutions to improve their health if you want to find the secrets to the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration. That's a quote by Nikola Tesla. Ron Beres As humans were made up of 70%, high mineral content, water that in itself is semiconductor, you know, electrical impulses are generated by the brain and are used for intercellular communication. So, all of our different cells and organs in our body are communicating with each other at different rates. Unfortunately, much like a tuning fork, we pick up the resonance of our environment and we mimic those different pulses, it's not healthy for us, I'm going to give you an example I have two tuning forks in my hand, one in each hand. Let's call them a and b. I'm going to take this tuning fork and I'm going to hit it and I'm going to let tuning for B to sit next to the tuning fork and it's going to pick up that resonance I want to show you here visually what it's going to sound like when our bodies picking up vibration from the environment. Lisa Beres Well, you can't hear visually, but you can certainly hear audio. So, Ron's going to demonstrate this. There we go. Excellent. Ron Beres So, you probably heard the sound of the second tuning fork, which by the way, never touched the other one that was struck. Lisa Beres So, as you can see, what you can't see can hurt you. And today we have a very special guest. He is a world-renowned expert, a fellow building biology environmental consultant, and one of the finest people we know Larry is an electrical engineer. He's a past certified mold remediator and a certified electromagnetic radiation specialist. Mr. Gus has been teaching classes. In fact, he taught Ron and I about indoor environments through the building biology Institute, BB AI. And if you want to learn more, visit www dot building biology institute.org. Welcome to the show, Larry. Larry Gust Its great to be with you again. Ron Beres Larry, we're going to kick off right very fast. We're going to go right into questions, because we know you're chomping at the bit. Can you summarize the major environmental concerns that are in a building environment? Sure. Ron, I'd Larry Gust be glad to do that there is there is biologic, chemical, and electrical. You know, we would be concerned about the kinds of materials that we're bringing into our dwellings instance of building materials I think we bring in after we occupy a home, and whether they give off gases which are bad for us. We're also concerned about, about mold growth in houses, dry houses a safe house because we're here today to talk about the third thing, which is the electrical issues, manmade electricity, has been shown through numerous studies to be bad for the body. Ron Beres I seem to recall seeing you on the Today Show and checking out a baby crib. I think there was a baby monitor that you spotted. And that goes hand in hand with that, wouldn't it? Larry Gust It certainly did. I mean, baby monitors are putting the baby at great risk because the energy and the environment right around in the room that just hit the crib but the entire room like startlingly high. I mean, there's 5000 studies or more that show these radiations to be bad for you, Ron. Lisa Beres And Larry, speaking of electromagnetic radiation in general. I mean, I think a lot of the listeners today really don't know what that entails, can you kind of break down for us what those components are, and what the differences are? Larry Gust The components of electromagnetic radiation, Lisa? Unknown Speaker The man-made electromagnetic radiation. Larry Gust Basically, we're dealing with magnetic fields and electric fields, which you have in your house, new to the wiring, the supplies, lights, and so forth. And those are physically active on people, but not quite as bad as the radiation from your cell phone, your cordless phone, your wireless connection, your pulsing Apple TV, black box, those things are wireless radiation, they're much higher frequency, and they seem to be much more debilitated. Lisa Beres Okay. So, Larry, we're really talking about it sounds like four different sorts of categories, where we would have the radio frequency fields from the wireless devices, we have the electric fields, and magnetic fields that could be coming from our home wiring errors and appliances. And then something which I know we've not going to get into a lot today, but dirty electricity, which some people have probably never even heard of. Larry Gust You know what, what does that mean? That means that there's lots of small voltage spikes, running around on your wiring and getting into the environment in your home. And, and because these spikes are quickly changing the body's reaction to those seems to be Merson reaction to less quickly changing magnetic and electric energies. So, we got these from our electronic devices, this dirty electricity really didn't pose much of a problem 20 years ago, 25 years ago, before the advent of solid-state circuit, and the ability to change voltages, from 120 volts down to a lower voltage to all of our electronics. And because we have those in everything, now we have this electricity is everywhere. Ron Beres And particularly at the charges, right, Larry? So, the chargers that are used the transformers there, that's where the we're getting the dirty electricity from? Larry Gust Oh, well, that's one type of transformer and the charger. But there's also transformers inside electronics, you can't see. Theyre in compact fluorescent light bulbs. Ron Beres So, as a building biologist and going into the home, you actually probably identify these dangers in the home. And then there's a lot of them, it sounds like. Larry Gust Theres a lot of places to look at, but I don't want to make it sounds hopeless. You can have a very healthy home by being aware of what the things are, and how you could control them to your benefit. And that's really the whole goal of building biology is to give people the control over their home environment. So, they have a health supporting home. Ron Beres Well, and you mentioned home, that's a good point. So, can these fields affect people everywhere in their home? Larry Gust Well, they do. I mean, they these fields are pervasive. So, they're at work, and they're out and you're walking down the street, and they're in your home. And the home for most people is kind of like castles to place they have control of what's going on. And therefore, they can take action to minimize these kinds of electromagnetic exposure. Lisa Beres And Larry, you, obviously parents, we've got this vulnerable population that's going to be more susceptible to these such as stay at home parents, little kids, kids that have developing brains and developing bodies. And the American Academy of Pediatrics even says, Hey, you need to be limiting your children's exposure to cell phones. But yet, we're seeing kind of the opposite today where kids are using cell phones and tablets and this more than ever. Larry Gust Yes, we are Lisa. Its really rather sad. Because the problem with all of this manmade electricity is you don't drop dead from the exposure to it right away. And so, these cumulative effects come due someplace down the road. And so, while babies handling a cell phone, it doesn't really make sense to the parent that there's anything wrong because the baby's perfectly fine. It's developmentally down the road where we have to be concerned about that to the baby. Ron Beres That's a great point. And so, I you know, when you listen to this sometimes and it seems like there's a lot of things you need to do for the home to protect yourself and your family. You know, you can go to building biology institute.org, right. And you can actually find a consultant in your area. Larry Gust Well, yes, a building biology Institute is in training people to make evaluations of people's homes. We have a series of self-study courses and onsite seminars that last five days and there's four of them. Ron Beres What I love about it, Larry, is you guys give solutions, you go on site and you provide solutions to people they don't know what to do, and you empower them to live a better life. Larry Gust You know, that's the way to look at this. You want to find out about what's happening in your environment and create the best environment you can for yourself and for your children. Lisa Beres And I know as Baubiologists ourselves, we know about the impatient of creating a safe sleep sanctuary. But can you elaborate a little bit on what are some of the symptoms that are associated with the field exposure when you aren't in a safe sleep sanctuary? Larry Gust Hopefully sleeping is affected by all of the four things we mentioned. But it's greatly affected by the electoral environment is a sleeping room. And if you were going to improve any room, in your house, you should focus on your sleeping areas, because you're getting seven, eight hours in that environment, and your body's doing its housekeeping and healing during that time. And for children. Of course, the sleeping period is even greater than that, if you have a poor electrical environment in your bedroom, you can feel fatigued during the day you have interrupted sleep. What I mean by that is you wake up more often, you may flip and flop in bed. I mean, we're seeing that kind of issue developed for people who are driving electric cars, where they have very poor sleep patterns from the exposure they get in the car. And that's after they get out. It's happening at night, you know, when they're trying to sleep. So, these things have some, you know, some lasting effects that don't just get away when you get out of the environment. Lisa Beres The symptoms that you just mentioned. Plus, you know, appetite loss, irritability, numbness, tingling, yeah, all these things headaches, a lot of people aren't really connecting the dots and electric cars would you advise against those? Larry Gust Well, every car, not only electric cars have different have radiation, electric radiation inside them back, we make all cars with electrical systems that create problems in all the currents that you goes out to run your radio or your heater fan or air conditioning fan, you know, it goes out on a wire, and it comes back on the entire frame of the automobile. And that causes much higher fields. And we would have to be the case if they came back on at a dedicated wire bringing that current back. Ron Beres I mean that there's so many friends and go here. You know, one thing I wanted to empower the listeners, you had some really good ideas. And we talked earlier about what can a person do in their sleeping space for these electrical radiations? Like how can you protect yourself in these electrical fields might be permeating from the walls, or from are they applying the different products in our room? Larry Gust Well, first of all, you should get rid of some things in your bedroom, you got to get rid of any cordless telephones, we shouldn't be turning off our cell phones or putting them on airplane mode, if we're going to use them for an alarm or light source in the middle of the night. You want to be rid of extension cords, power cords and things that you have under your bed, it's really preferable to unplug the lamps that are inside of your bed because they are like literally their big radiators of electric fields, which affects the way we sleep and heal in bed. Those are the things you can do for yourself; you might also be able to locate the circuit breaker that turns off the wiring that goes around the bed, or that also if you're under the bed over the bed. And he turned that off, you will have a big reduction in electric fields as well. Lisa Beres You know, a lot of people don't think about wiring because it's out of sight. And they think oh gosh, you know, isn't that covered by electrical code when I move into my home or rent or buy? Or you know, they think like assured for safety. Larry Gust You're absolutely right. If you if it's the wiring burns the place down or kills you because it gives you an electric shock and you drop dead. There's a lot of people who are concerned about that. And that's why we have very strong electrical codes, the National Electrical Code to prevent that sort of thing from happening, but the code does not think about really long-term effects was suddenly affecting your health, unfortunately. I wanted to back up to your bedroom for a second there, Ron Lisa, also be aware of the fact that cable TV boxes or satellite TV boxes tend to have wireless radiation coming from them all the time, whether you're using them or not. Wow. And Roku boxes and Apple TV boxes, unless you want unless you unless you unplug that when you are done watching a TV program in your bedroom, it's going to be popping off with our strong pulses of RF radiation all the time. A little bit of what you're thinking once you know that then you can put it on, put it on a power strip with a little, a little a little switch on it. And when you're done watching, you can switch it off. Lisa Beres Yeah, no, it's great. And it's just such an important topic and such an important thing that you know you do and the Institute for building biology does to bring awareness to so many of these issues that people just don't pay attention to and don't especially with this Sometimes we may not associate their symptoms to these issues. Ron Beres You know what one question, Larry. So, you were instrumental, you know, he probably didn't realize this. But several years ago, when we got introduced to building biology, when an alarm clock, which we thought was just made to protect us from electrical fields. Lisa Beres Its like a less EMF, EMF alarm clock that we spent a lot of money on. Ron Beres And you actually came to our house. Youve probably actually done this 10 million times. You test it and you're like, oh, my goodness, this is giving off a magnetic field. And like many things, like a lamp or whatever it may be, it's not wired properly, or not grounded, it's given off this magnetic field. And that's probably one of the deadlier things that someone can be subjected to, from a lamp or an alarm clock in their bedroom. Right? Larry Gust Right. They are they are radiators. It was that old, that old fashioned alarm clock generated a really high magnetic field as it went out three, four feet from the location of the clock, which is why we like to get those away from the bed. I mentioned earlier, I mentioned earlier, you know, unplugging the lamp, or having an outlet switch on it, that you can turn it off, because it's a big radiator as well. Those are saying, you know, those are easy things people can do for themselves, they can make a list of these, these, these things we're talking about on the podcast today, make a list of them, and we talk about them. And then, you know, every weekend, to check one off you the thing we're telling you to do, and get that out of your life. And then you will have a better environment then. And as you go to this weekend after weekend, you will eventually achieve a big improvement in your sleeping environment. Lisa Beres Yeah, that's a great point. And Larry, if somebody can't hire a Building Biologist, or doesn't have one in their city, what are some measurement tools like DIY tools that you would recommend for the average, you know, Mom, even or homeowner that they could do some testing to get started? Larry Gust Yeah, so there's a number of lower cost instruments, they're listed on my website, if you go to my website and go over to resources, you're going to see EMF measurement equipment there, and you can look at the different kinds that are there. And, and, you know, choose. The unfortunate thing I suppose about measurement equipment is that these energies vary so drastically in there and the level that they vibrate at that you need a separate instrument to measure each one of them. So magnetic fields are separate from electric, they're separate from RF, but you can, you can get one of those instruments. at the lower end, I mean, like $150, for electric and magnetic together and in two instruments in one and then the RF about $180. So, you would be pretty well equipped at that point to do your friends and your family and your bedrooms and your neighbors. Lisa Beres Scare all your family members, right? Larry Gust Well, you could be a savior. You could I mean, there's a little sort of story that happened in Marin County, a couple of years ago, and our neighbor had a magnetic few years, he was like going around the neighborhood and one place and the four year old, she was having really rectal bleeding, lethargy, wouldn't eat, couldn't sleep. And none of the medical tests showed there was anything wrong with a guy went into her bedroom, and there was an 80 milligauss magnetic field in her bed. And that's a huge number. Very, I mean, normal. Normally, these fields are under one. So, this is 80, more or more times, wow. And then they went out from the play yard and there was an 80 milligauss reading in the play area that was due to a wiring error, we won't get into that. They moved her out of that room. And then she recovered in about a month from all of the symptoms, and then they had an electrician come in and fix the problem, they could move her back into the room. So, you know, what you can't see smell or hear, you know, could harm you or your children. And you can get a meter that you could look at it. cheap insurance, I think Lisa, right? Lisa Beres Yeah, I agree. Hey, get it for Christmas presents for your family and friends. Larry Gust We're an electromagnetic society, everything we got runs on electricity. And it's, you know, rather than being uninformed about this and get yourself in the form, so you can use them smartly. Lisa Beres And, then to plug your website where people can go to find those resources for those instruments is www.GustEnviro.com. And that's GustEnviro.com. Larry, you have been so amazing. No surprise there. You're always such a wealth of knowledge, and such a brilliant person. It was so fun to have you with us today. Thank you for being here. And I want to leave the listeners with one quote before we go. If you think you're too small to make a difference, Try sleeping with a mosquito, the Dalai Lama? Ron Beres Absolutely. Larry. You do such a good job of talking about all the different various parts of our home that might be dangerous for us to be in and giving us solutions to make us live a stronger, healthier life. And it's beyond just 5g, but it can be in other things in your home, like you talked about today, and thanks for sharing that. Larry Gust My pleasure, Ron, Lisa Beres Thank you for joining us today. We hope you learned so much and you get started at making simple changes in your home that can lead to huge health improvements in your life. So, head on over in the meantime, to the institute's website at www.BuildingBiologyInstitute.org.
