Create a Daily Escape in 3 Blissful Steps!

One of the constants in life is change.  An underlying realization is that life can sometimes be good and other times, not so good.  Finding the middle way, or remaining unattached to these two extremes, is the goal in the use of Feng Shui which relies on the power of place.

The concept of Yin and Yang penetrates all that is sought when reviewing an environment’s ability to support harmony in one’s life.  Yin is calm, Yang is energetic.  The former takes us within; the latter is expressed on the outside.  We live in a very Yang world.  Often we operate at a non-stop speed without taking a break. The break – the quiet inner moment – is what allows us to survive with smiles on our faces. How, you ask?  It’s quite simple.

3 Simple Steps to Create a Calming Escape:

1. HOME : Find a space in your home, where you can escape daily for 10 minutes.  Make this your sanctuary; even if you have to bring your ‘props’ with you each time.  It could be a spare bedroom.  It could be a closet.  It could even be a bathroom!  Make a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign if you have family members to put on notice.  Bring your iPod with some calm music downloaded.  Whatever it takes, frequent this spot each day.  Sit for a minimum of 10 minutes, eyes closed while imagining your thoughts floating away down a river. Set a timer if you think you can’t do it.  You’ll be pleasantly surprised and may not want to set the timer next time.

2. WORK: Create your own private space at work.  Bring in a picture of a scene that makes you feel calm. Place this on your desk, in your brief case, or even inside a drawer.  When you feel your stress levels rising, pull out the picture. Take 10 minutes, close the office door and repeat the steps above.  If you have to walk outside – or go to the restroom to be alone – do it. You will return refreshed; leaving any stressful thoughts behind!

3. OUTDOORS: Visit your favorite outdoor spot, daily.  Perhaps you have a patio/deck or location on your property that feels secure.  If not on your property, look for a spot in nature: the beach, the ocean, the mountain, woods, or nearby park. Bring a blanket to sit on, but leave the music at home.  Sit for 10 minutes and, as you quiet your mind, let the sounds of nature flow in.  You can do this before or after work – or on your lunch break.  Getting in touch with nature is the closest you can be in touch with the Ch’i of the earth.

The next time you feel overwhelmed, choose one of the above, and let your worries go.  Tap in to your inner, calm resources in your chosen place of bliss.  You’ll be a radiant beam of light afterwards and ready to meet any of life’s daily challenges!
