Toxins Begone:
Green Your Lawn

Safer-LC-ProgramThere is nothing like a perfectly manicured, grassy green lawn that screams, I have awesome curb appeal! But, before you lawn’s ego heads into overdrive, consider this: These lawns often come with a hefty price.  Many people today choose to use non-organic products that actually kill the life in your soil by adding salt based synthetic fertizilizers (soo not nice). The soil then loses the ability to feed your lawn naturally, creating a fertilizer addiction for your grass (oy!). Even worse, non-organic fertilizer that is not absorbed right away is washed into streams and rivers causing damage to local ecosystems.

Feeling like you need to send your lawn to rehab? It doesn’t take a twelve step program, but growing a truly organic lawn is a reality (and by that – we don’t mean a cheesy TV show). When it comes to organic lawn planning and preparation, it’s important to understand that your soil is a living thing. In order to have a thriving organic yard, your soil needs naturally occurring elements that non-organic fertilizers don’t have. An organic lawn care {detox} program requires providing the right nutrients at the right time, ensuring protection against disease.

Our superb friends (ie: the organic lawn experts) at Safer® Brand crafted the perrrfect program so you’ll get the yard you want with the peace of mind you need! The Organic Lawn Care Program rocks (and soils)!!  Find comprehensive resources about organic lawn planning HERE. Our new BFF’s at Safer® Brand have you covered…in green! One lucky RonandLisa reader is gonna WIN the program for themselves!  How’s that…neighbor?! (ARV $250.00)! P.S.  For those not so lucky to win, you can still save!

Did You Know, Safer® Brand’s:

  • Lawn Restore® is a controlled release fertilizer made from organic materials, logo2and a blend of beneficial soil microorganisms that provides a quick green-up, promotes deep root development, and makes your grass stronger, greener, and more resistant to adverse weather conditions and certain lawn diseases.
  • Weed Prevention Plus® is powered by all-natural corn gluten meal which contains naturally occurring substances that grow bacteria and starve weeds of the nutrients the seed’s tiny feeder roots need to grow.
    • Important to note that Weed Prevention Plus is to be used as a pre-emergent.  It will not harm any established plants, but will not allow any seed to grow.  If someone wants to re-seed their lawn, they need to wait 2 weeks to re-seed otherwise the seeds will not germinate due to the application of Weed Prevention Plus.
  • Program covers up to 2,500 sq. ft.
  • Will not burn grass – no risk of over application
  • Ships direct to consumer – Free UPS shipping on every order!

Bertha Garrison July 7, 2013 at 12:22 pm

The benefits of going organic in your lawn and garden are exponential! In addition to helping improve the environment and decreasing the chances of accelerated disease in your family, going organic can provide mental and physical benefits, long-term money-savings, and increased vitamin and mineral content in your soil, among other things. Ringer® Lawn Restore® Fertilizer can help you “go organic” — good for your lawn and the environment!

I just bought this last week: Safer® Brand 3-in-1 Garden Spray. Some bugs are eating up my bean plants. It was very easy to apply and it’s food-safe and you can apply it all the way up until harvest time. Great!

If clover is taking over your lawn, there’s a good chance your soil lacks nitrates which encourages grass growth. In fact the easiest way to control clover is to promote healthy grass. To remove clover, first till the soil and then add compost to increase the soil’s fertility. Finish off by reseeding bare spots with grass. To prevent clover, apply a slow-release organic lawn fertilizer in the fall and leave clippings on the grass during the summer.

Safer® Brand Magic Start® Grass Patch Transition Area is definitely my favorite, I’ve been wanting to start a little garden in my backyard for so long!

Nichole K. Bradshaw July 16, 2013 at 11:46 am

I’ve been organic for 2 years now and must say I am happy. 80 pct of lawn looks good but I have a few problem spots. Had some clover and I don’t mind but it has taken over a few areas. Also have some wild violet which is doing the same. I hate to spray but I had to do it to control the clover and hopefully kill the violet. Any suggestions? I think my soil might be compacted and that’s why a I have a few spots of mostly weeds. I aerate spring and summer. Any thoughts on gypsum to help loosen soil? I also have dandelions but pull the, bye hand. I have read they are a symptom of compaction and low calcium.
